Located in the extremes of south-central Vietnam, the province of Ninh Thuan is often victim to extreme weather events with drastically increasing frequencies and severity, including droughts, desertification, typhoons and floods. Climate change has had a highly detrimental effect on the quality of water sources in the province, scarce as they already are, which in turn negatively affects the flow of multiple rivers, the frequency and severity of floods and droughts, as well as groundwater and potable water. Solving water-related issues is the key to better adaptation to and negating the effects of climate change. To this end, afforestation has been one of the proposed solutions. Under the mantra “Plant trees, keep water”, the Green Happiness Program of the Song (“Living” in Vietnamese) Foundation has cooperated with the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan province to launch project “Forest Symphony” with the goal of promoting afforestation, which will maintain a stable level of groundwater for human consumption as well as preserve a consistent water supply for irrigation lakes.  

Be Strong Vietnam is a campaign which was launched by Song Foundation from 24th May to 23th August in order to help the community survive through the pandemic. This campaign is for everyone, from those frontline doctors to the locals who were kept in quarantine. In 3 months, the campaign has successfully asked for help inside and outside Vietnam so that it could deal with the COVID - 19. Be Strong Vietnam includes 2 main activities: Supporting the frontlines and Shared goods. Supporting the frontlines is to supply essential things (aprons, masks, gloves) and medical devices. On the other hand, Shared goods is for providing foods and essential goods for citizens who are in social distance. Since the first day started, “Be Strong Vietnam” received a lot of support from the community. In addition to Sống Foundation’s effort of asking for help, the campaign also got back up from a lot of sponsorships, benefactors and volunteers.

When facing natural catastrophes, the poor are more vulnerable than any other group as they lack sufficient resources to recover on their own. Therefore, since 2013, The Resilient Housing Program of Song Foundation has designed models of resilient houses while raising funds and providing financial support for poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households to build safe houses, thereby mitigating the adverse impacts of natural disasters on their daily lives. The Resilient Housing Program implements 2 projects, one of which is The Happy Village Project. The Happy Village project aims at supporting communities affected by natural disasters and climate change by forming safe villages, improving environments and promoting the preservation of indigenous cultural values. Through research and community consultation, together with the “participatory approach” in implementation method, The Resilient Housing Program provides technical and partial financial support, as well as utilizes local government resources and plans to carry out its activities in collaboration with the beneficiary communities.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine caused hundreds of civilian casualties and a mass exodus of refugees, most of whom are women and children. This conflict in Ukraine poses a growing threat to at least 7.5 million children who are in danger of harm, emotional distress, and displacement and might be the largest humanitarian crisis Europe has seen in decades.In response to the unfolding war in Ukraine, Save the Children, a humanitarian aid organization for children, established the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund to provide children and families affected by the conflict in Ukraine with immediate aid and recovery, such as food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and cash assistance.
