Nguyen Dang Quang

Nguyen Dang Quang was born in 1998 in a family of music traditions. At the age of 9, Quang started taking piano lessons with his first teacher and grandmother, Prof. Tran Thu Ha. In 2016, Quang graduated the 9-year pre-collage program with excellence. From 2017 to 2020, Quang received a full scholarship from the Government of Vietnam and completed his undergraduate program at the University of Montreal, Canada, under the guidance of Prof. Dang Thai Son. Currently, Quang is studying at the University of Montreal as a first-year master’s student with Prof. Jean Saulnier.
Quang has participated in many international music competitions and has won many prizes, which includes First Prize at the Val Tildone Competition in Piacenza, Italy, one of the 10 Outstanding Young Faces of Vietnam, First Prize of Category B as well as prizes for Best Vietnamese contestant and Best performance of a concerto at the 3rd International Piano Competition in Hanoi, Vietnam, Second Prize of Category C at the Lansum International Music Festival held in Los Angeles, USA, and First Prize of Open Age Category at the Malaysia Virtual International Music Competition. In addition, Quang also had many performances, including an exchange concert with the Guangxi University in Nanning, China, solo performance at the Autumn Festival held in Saigon Opera House, solo performance at the Zipper Hall in Los Angeles, USA, 2 performances playing Rachmaninoff 2nd Piano Concerto with conductor Honna Tetsuji and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra at the Grand Concert Hall - Vietnam National Academy of Music and conductor Nguyen Thieu Hoa and the Vietnam Orchestra of Opera and Ballet at the Hanoi Opera House. Quang also performed Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor under the baton of conductor Tran Vuong Thach and the Saigon Symphony Orchestra in Ho Chi Minh City. Recently, in 2021, he performed Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with conductor Honna Tetsuji and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra at Hanoi Opera House.
